Microtransactions

What are Microtransactions?

Microtransactions are transactions that users make within a game or app. These microtransactions can include in-app purchases (IAPs), subscriptions, and app monetization. Typically, microtransactions involve low-cost items such as power ups, virtual currency, cosmetic upgrades, additional levels, or exclusive content. These microtransactions allow users to enhance their experience, progress in a game more quickly, or customize their avatars.

Microtransactions are the primary revenue driver in free-to-play (F2P) games, enabling developers to monetize their user base without any upfront purchases. Coupled with the broad audience appeal of casual, hyper-casual, and hybrid casual games, microtransactions play an important role in sustaining the development of many popular mobile games.
